California Attorney General Rob Bonta Endorses Wendy Carrillo for Re-Election to State Assembly

Today, Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo’s campaign for re-election to the new 52nd Assembly District announced the endorsement of California Attorney General Rob Bonta.

Attorney General Rob Bonta said:
“Wendy Carrillo has been one of the strongest fighters for equity, justice and opportunity, working for years to ensure everyone has a voice in our political system. Wendy understands the struggles our marginalized communities face and I am proud to support her re-election to the State Assembly, where I know she will continue fighting for greater access to justice for all Californians.”

Rob Bonta was appointed to serve as California’s Attorney General in April of 2021. He is the first Filipino American to lead the state’s Department of Justice. Prior to becoming Attorney General, Bonta served for 9 years in the State Assembly, where he embodied progressive values and led efforts to outlaw for-profit prisons, create a California Green New Deal, and pass the nation’s strongest protections for renters.

Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo said: “I am proud to have the support of California’s Attorney General. Rob Bonta has spent his career fighting for California families and ensuring every Californian is treated fairly and with dignity. He understands what it takes to make real change and I am honored to have him in my corner.”

Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo’s momentum continues to build with this announcement. Attorney General Bonta is the third constitutional officer to throw their support behind Carrillo, and along with other high-profile organizations representing working people, including the United Farm Workers, the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, and the California Nurses Association. Carrillo was first elected in 2017 and has been a champion for new laws and budget proposals to strengthen worker protections, increase apprenticeship and workforce development programs, and protect seniors and people living with disabilities.

The Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2022.
