Today, Wendy Carrillo’s campaign for Assembly District 51 announced that State Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) has thrown his support behind Carrillo.
Senator de León said: “I am proud to endorse Wendy Carrillo for State Assembly. Wendy is a true champion for our families. She started her career advocating for in-home healthcare workers and has continued her work as a community advocate, pushing for quality schools, high wage jobs, affordable housing and environment protection.”
“As a formerly undocumented immigrant who came to the U.S. as a young child, Wendy has fought for immigration reform and a path to citizenship for our hardworking students, parents and families. I know Wendy will be a passionate Assemblymember who will represent our communities with determination and integrity.”
“I am truly honored to receive the endorsement of Senate President pro Tem Kevin de León,” said Carrillo. “Senator de León and I share a fundamental commitment to standing up for all Californians, including immigrants and working men and women who simply want a chance to achieve their American Dream. If elected, I look forward to continuing to work with Senator de León as we fight to secure our community and state’s future.”
Senator De León is the latest elected official to throw his strong support behind Carrillo. Congressman Jimmy Gomez (D-34), who previously represented AD 51 prior to his election to Congress, has also endorsed Carrillo, noting that she “has been fighting for our communities her entire life” and called Carrillo his “choice to represent us in the State Assembly.”
